The Good Noise Gospel Choir

THE GOOD NOISE VANCOUVER GOSPEL CHOIR is a community Gospel Choir, founded in September 2004.   The Choir is the realization of a dream of both Directors and which they began to seriously discuss in the Spring of 2003.   Over a latté on Commercial Drive in Vancouver they shared the vision for a Gospel Choir with Rupert Lang, Director of Music at Christ Church Cathedral.  (Without a doubt, a very West Coast way to share dreams and visions!)

As a result of that morning coffee meeting, Marcus Mosely and Gail Suderman were invited to be Artists in Residence at Christ Church Cathedral in the Spring of 2003 specifically to start a Gospel Choir.  Suddenly, this choir with its Co-Directors, no name and no singers had a home and a most glorious one at that! It would be over a year before the choir would come into existence as renovations were just beginning at the Cathedral. Even the congregation had to vacate the building and meet elsewhere during that time.  Once renovations were complete, Marcus and Gail kicked into high gear, getting the word out and inviting singers to audition. Never did they imagine the project would quite literally explode into being.

The Choir began in September, 2004 with 42 auditioned members. The energy among the singers was evident from the very first rehearsal. The enthusiasm, joy and excitement was second to none. The choir members possessed them all right from the start. They practiced, rehearsed and performed with dedication and much Joy! What more could two directors have asked for?

Forty-three more choir members to be exact!! The word was out and Gail and Marcus were flooded with requests to hold mid-season auditions. In January, 2005 the choir doubled its size to 85 members. Amazingly, there were Sopranos, Altos and Men auditioning and the balance of sections within the choir was maintained, even with the growth in numbers.

Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir is a Community Choir, made up of men and women from a variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds. The members also come from many different faith traditions.  Everyone is welcomed, so long as they have an openness of heart and spirit and a love for Gospel Music.

The inspiration for the name “Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir” comes from the Psalm that says, "Make a joyful NOISE unto the Lord," and from the meaning of the word Gospel, “GOOD News,” hence, the name: “Good Noise."

The choir is fortunate to have two exceptional resident musicians: Lou Hoover on Drums and David Olson on Bass. Along with Gail at the piano and Marcus conducting, they make for an exceptional high energy, high caliber team. It is a joy and privilege to share the music and share the stage together!

As of June, 2005 the Choir is at capacity and is no longer holding auditions. If you would like to be on our email list with notifications of audition possibilities and/or of our upcoming performances, please email goodnoisevgc@yahoo.com or visit the choir website.
